GOrilla Racing track medal

GOrilla Racing, a local company, began sponsoring a series of local track meets in the summer of 2020.

They have a striking logo (seen below) which I thought would look great on a medal which could be awarded at the meets. Based on the shirt logo, I designed a prototype.

  • The shirt
  • Rendering from a 3D version I designed using Rhino CAD software
  • The first few were machined from wax since it takes less time than metal to find areas which need work
  • The machining ridges seen here are much less apparent in real life. But they still need to be smoothed.
  • Brass after some hand finishing. Some details (for example, the outside corner of the left eye) could benefit from re-machining with a smaller end mill. The results of using a 0.019" tool are seen in the following image. a bit this small needs to be moved very slowly and takes long time hours
